JOHNSON & JOHNSON NAMED 2014 STRAIGHT FOR EQUALITY IN THE WORKPLACE AWARD WINNER

PFLAG National’s Sixth Annual Awards Gala to Celebrate Corporate Leader in Ally Excellence

WASHINGTON D.C. – PFLAG National—€”the nation's largest grassroots-based organization for families, friends, and allies of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people—€”has named the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies the 2014 Straight for Equality in the Workplace Award honoree. The award will be presented at the Sixth Annual Straight for Equality Awards Gala on Thursday, April 10 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square. Straight for Equality—€”a national outreach and education project created by PFLAG National—€”invites, educates and engages straight allies to advocate for and support LGBT people.

The Straight for Equality in the Workplace Award acknowledges an organization with a demonstrated commitment to achieving equality for LGBT people in the workplace by educating and engaging straight allies in creating both policy and culture change.

“Johnson & Johnson and its LGBT Employee Resource Group, GLOBAL, is a true success story in corporate Diversity & Inclusion efforts, ” said Jody M. Huckaby, Executive Director of PFLAG National. “GLOBAL’s leadership has engaged PFLAG to provide education for employees on ways to become a more effective ally in the workplace, and were the first corporation to engage PFLAG on the topic of parents and caregivers as anti-bullying advocates for youth.”

As a result of this work Johnson & Johnson, in 2011, launched the tremendously successful Care with PRIDE™ initiative, the proceeds of which went to PFLAG programs including Cultivating Respect: Safe Schools For All, a safe schools and anti-bullying program that provides support, resources, training, model policy and creative programs to create an environment of respect that makes schools safe for all children. By the end of 2014, over $500,000 will have been donated to fund these programs.

“The leaders of GLOBAL recognized that this conversation about bullying could be part of their Credo to impact the communities in which they work and live, while benefiting their business as well,” said Huckaby. “Care with PRIDE™ has demonstrated—€”in a highly visible way—€”the ROI of network groups.”
