In March 2010, MetLife continued its pioneering research with the release of “Still Out, Still Aging: The MetLife Study of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Baby Boomers,” which provided both an update on the 2006 report and a broader scope in looking at the LGBT population in comparison to the general population. MMI also partnered with Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) to co-produce a financial planning guide, “Planning Tips for LGBT Individuals and Couples.”
In addition, MetLife’s financial representatives across the country are helping individuals and couples proactively plan for their unique financial needs. Beyond helping the LGBT community secure their financial futures, MetLife representatives also actively support various LGBT causes and organizations.
In the workplace, MetLife strives to maintain a diverse culture that promotes inclusion. The company offers its U.S. employees and their domestic same- and opposite-sex partners a variety of health and other benefits. MetLife also has a recognized LGBT affinity group, Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgenders and Allies at MetLife (GLAM), which provides support and guidance for MetLife’s LGBT marketing strategy and recommends best practices and strategies to increase recruiting in the LGBT market. “It’s an honor for MetLife to be recognized by PFLAG for our efforts to create an open inclusive environment for all of our associates, ” says Lynne DiStasio, vice president and chief diversity officer at MetLife. “PFLAG has been a great partner. The Straight for Equality seminars, in particular, have been a great tool in helping educate associates about how straight allies can be supportive of LGBT people at work, at home and in their communities. It’s a great tribute to receive this award.”
